Orion is a freeware, cross-platform web browser developed by Kagi Inc., a company founded by Vladimir Prelovac in Palo Alto, CA (USA). The initial first public was in July of 2022[1]
Orion looks to provide a native macOS browser, similar to macOS Safari but adding in modern web browser features.
Features
editOrion is lightweight, WebKit based web browser providing native applications for Mac, iPhone and iPad. Orion provides many modern features such as built-in ad blocking, zero telemeter and support for web extensions. Built on WebKit, Orion provides fast and lightweight browser and deep integration into native macOS technologies like Keychain or Live Text.
Orion has been engineered from ground up with security in mind. It provides zero telemetry, and native ad-blocker which blocks 1st and 3rd party ads and trackers by default.
Orion has also provided ability to create custom / programmable buttons. This feature allows users to script browser functionality as well has execute AppleScript and JavaScript
Extensions
editOrion has provided native support for Firefox and Chrome extensions inside a WebKit browser. This was notably when 1Password allowed 3rd party extensions to work[2]
Business Model
editOrion is built by Kagi Inc. Kagi is building Orion along side Kagi Search Engine. Orion is 100% user funded without ads or affiliates. Orion offers Orion+ that will allow for donations while receiving perks such as access to RC Release, unique badging on support forum, and ability to impact product development.
