Overview

edit

Parami University is a private, not-for-profit online university that offers two bachelor's degree programs: Bachelor's degree in Philosophy, Politics & Economics (PPE) and Bachelor's degree in Statistics & Data Science (SDS).[1] All of its undergraduate online classes are fully synchronous, allowing students to interact with professors in real time. Its degree programs were launched in June 2022 after obtaining licensing from the Higher Education Licensure Commission of Washington, DC, in the US. [2] It also has an agreement with Bard College to grant dual associate and bachelor's degrees from both institutions to its graduates [3] and is a member of the Open Society University Network.[4]

History

edit

Parami University has its roots in Myanmar (Burma). Founded as Parami Institute of Liberal Arts and Sciences in Myanmar in 2017, it offered non-credit-bearing liberal arts and science programs in-person. In the aftermath of the military coup in 2021, the University became a virtual institution to safeguard academic freedom and maintain autonomy in the pursuit of its missions.[5] In 2022, the University obtained registration and licensing in the US to offer online degree programs and launched its online associate and bachelor's degree programs in June 2022.[6] Its stated mission is to educate underserved students in developing countries so that they will become effective change agents and contributing members of the global community. It accomplishes this by nurturing critical thinking, inspired leadership, and compassionate service through globally competitive liberal arts and sciences education. It has a strong focus on improving access to higher education in Myanmar and the global south, in collaboration with local and global partners. [7][8]
