Draft:Plainfield SOS House
In January 2026, a video posted on the social media platform, TikTok showed lights on an abandoned house located on 25725 West 143rd St in Plainfield, Illinois flickering on and off. The poster of the video said the flickering of the lights resembled Morse Code for SOS. The caption of the video stated that the poster of the video was driving past the house when they noticed the lights. Soon after the poster called 911 and waited for police to arrive, however, they never came. The poster soon called the police again and an officer answered, the officer stated that the police waited outside the house for around 20 minutes and that they did not see or hear anything suspicious, the officer then stated the police weren't going back to the house.[1]
The video gained attention, and many other users stated that the flickering had been occurring for around 2 months. Multiple theories spring up online, with the most notable one being that the lights were caused by someone who was kidnapped calling for help, another theory that sprang up was that the house was haunted.
The Plainfield police department would eventually announce through a social media post that they have checked the house multiple times and have found no indication of anyone living there. The police department also reached out to the owners of the house and were told that the reason for the flickering was due to faulty solar lights.[2][3][4]
