"Pretty Girls Walk" is a single by American rapper Big Boss Vette. Released on October 14, 2022, by Republic Records, the song went viral in early 2023 on social networking site TikTok and received attention from American TV show South Park. The song is recognized for its catchy hook "All the pretty girls walk like this, this, this, this, this." In March 2023, a remix with American rapper Coi Leray was released.
Composition and background
edit"Pretty Girls Walk" has a BPM of 90 beats per minute.[1] The instrumental has a catchy, looping bassline and 808 clap patterns. The songs lyrics talk about feminism, women empowerment, diamonds, Vette's desires to visit an island ("I like diamonds, shining, fly me to an island"), sex, and money.
In a Genius Verified interview, Vette said that she "wanted to make a song that everybody can feel good about, that's when we came up with- you know- 'All the pretty girls walk like this, this, this.'. And when we got a beat, it was like 'Oh shit, it's actually finna be good!'"
More on about the meaning while reviewing the hook, Vette said "...Just about a woman walking, it's about how she carry herself, how she treat herself, how she treat others, because if you are a beautiful person, right? But your attitude is just horrible and you just treat people like fucked up and nah, you cannot be considered a pretty girl because your attitude makes you ugly,... you can't do that. Pretty girl is a boss, like, she uplifts women, like she does not tear women down, because why?" Vette concluded.[2]
Rise to popularity
editDespite the song being released mid-October, the song didn't immediately go viral. In the Genius Verified interview from above paragraph, Vette explained "...Put it out, and I was like 'it's not doing [anything], what am I supposed to do now'. Like three months later, a dancer created a dance to it, shoutout to Paige, and that literally started it, making it go crazy and people started using the song for walking videos, vlogs, work routines, cooking videos, animal videos." Vette stated the animal videos were her favorite.
Season 26 of the American animated comedy television show South Park premiered on February 8th, 2023. The episode "Cupid Ye" featured Kyle and Tolkien dancing to the song with a clip going viral online subsequently.[3]
