Pui Fai (known from 1983-1984 as "Nokhu" (Pronouced Nok-hu)) was an all-woman Thai Folk band formed in 1983 and disbanded in 1987.[1]
The band originated from 5 high school students of Satriwithaya School, to participate in a folk music competition organized by Bansomdejchaopraya Rajabhat University in 1983. While the band was using the name "Nokhu", Metro Records and Tape approached and offered the band a contract, which resulted in them releasing their debut album under the label titled Nohku. After all 5 have finished their high school studies and have entered university, Metro Records called up all 5 members of the band to come back and produce music again in 1984. 2 of them did not show up, whom of which identities are unknown. Leaving Oe, Boom and Pak as the remaining 3 members. Shortly after this they renamed to "Pui Fai" which comes along with their first studio album under the name, named Song Hau Jai (Two Hearts) to moderate success. Shortly after that, they released their second album, Phrom Likhit.
In the same year, Metro Records was approached by RS sound (Now RS) to borrow the band for their project "Roum Dao", a complication album where famous singers from different bands come together to produce a single album. Because at that moment, they did not have any female singers under their label. In this album, the band sang along music legends such as Six Sense, Fruity amongst other. Which caused the band to explode in popularity, which in turn caused the band to switch label from Metro to RS Sound before releasing their first album, Sai Tharn Rak, in 1985 to moderate success.
Shortly after, one member of the band, Oe, had to leave to become a teacher after studying at the Faculty of Education, Chulalongkorn University. Consequently, the band continued with only two members, Boom and Pak. Despite this, their second album, Song Rao, released in the year 1986, was also successful.
After Oe have finished her studies, she returned to the band and released the 3rd and final album, Kep Rak... Ma Fak Fon, in 1987 to some success.
The band disbanded in the same year as one of the band member, Pak, did not want to pursue career in the music industry, causing the group to disband.
