The R268 is a proposed New Technology Train-series New York City Subway car type. It was first mentioned under the MTA's Non-Construction Contract Solicitation Notice document back in June of 2023.[1] It is likely to replace the R68 and R68A fleets, which were built in the late 1980s. The contract of the R268 would be awarded in the late-2020s. This model would have more futuristic and advanced technology similar to the current R211. Like the R211Ts and R262s, it will feature open gangways.
