Rajeev Amarasuriya is a member of the Governing Board in the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.[1] In 2023, he has been appointed as the Sri Lanka Country Representative of the Commonwealth Legal Education Association (CLEA).[2]
Amarasuriya also holds several key positions, including Member of the Council of the University of Colombo, Board Member of the Sri Lanka Accounting and Auditing Standards Board, Executive Committee Member of the Law Association for the Asia and Pacific (LAWASIA), and Member of the Standing Committee on Legal Studies of the UGC, among others.[3]
Education
editHe holds a degree in Law from the University of Colombo and is an Attorney-at-Law of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka, having topped the Final Bar Examination.[4]
Career
editRajeev began his legal practice at the law chambers of Sanjeeva Jayawardena, PC, where he practiced for more than a decade before establishing his own chambers. He is a regular practitioner before the Appellate Courts, specializing in all aspects of appellate law, constitutional law, and public law.
Additionally, he has a varied practice covering diverse fields such as civil, contractual, commercial, property, taxation, banking, labor, and other disciplines of law.[5]He is a former Member of the Council of Legal Education of Sri Lanka, chaired by the Honorable Chief Justice, which serves as the governing body of the Sri Lanka Law College.
Additionally, he has served as a former Commissioner of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka, a former Member of the Board of Governors of the Sri Lanka National Arbitration Centre, and the Immediate Past President of the Alumni Association of the University of Colombo.[4]
