Biography

edit

Raphaël Algieri was born on April 4, 2000, in Dieppe, and grew up in a village near Cannes. Surrounded by two families with deeply contrasting values, he developed a strong affinity for paradoxes, improbability, and chance from an early age[2]—themes that would deeply influence his creative journey. Since childhood, he has had a passion for drawing, which became a natural means of self-expression. His fashion sketches gradually took shape as a way to tell stories and convey emotions, elements he considers essential in his work.

After studying fashion design and pattern making at LISAA Mode Paris, he developed and shaped his identity as a designer, inspired by a vision of fashion that combines aesthetics, social engagement, and personal expression. From an early age, he was fascinated by the idea of merging the art of fashion with deep values such as inclusivity and ethics.

Creation of the Brand

2024 Keqiao Fashion Week / Look 20

Raphaël Algieri launched ALGIERI PARIS in February 2023, determined to pursue a creative path despite facing early struggles in the fashion industry. After graduating from LISAA Mode Paris, he decided to establish his own brand following several disappointing internship experiences, realizing that he would be "better served by himself." His project was motivated by a desire to offer dark and refined fashion, inspired by Parisian nightlife and infused with the values of the queer community. By exploring themes related to the codes of sex, Algieri created an aesthetic he calls "Bunker Couture," which reflects a tension between brutality and elegance, often using materials like leather and vinyl.

Initially, the collections are fully self-funded, and Raphaël learns the realities of the fashion industry by trying various projects, sometimes making costly mistakes. His journey begins to gain visibility in 2021 when he shares pieces from his graduation collection on TikTok. In 2022, his participation in the Open Mode Festival and the organization of his first pop-up store in Paris mark the official launch of the brand.

In 2023, ALGIERI PARIS experienced a turning point with an invitation to the Brooklyn Fashion Week to present his collection "Collision." This opportunity opened doors to new events, including a "meet the designer" at the Doors store in Soho, New York, and a designer exchange in Shaoxing, China,[3] where he presented in front of the International Federation of Textile Manufacturers and the Chinese Minister of Textiles. In 2024, he was invited back to Shaoxing to showcase his collection "Parle-moi de tes blessures, je t'ouvrirai le cœur" to an audience of professionals at the 2024 Keqiao Fashion Week.[4]

In 2024, the brand joins the French Federation of Men's Ready-to-Wear, strengthening its position on both the French and international fashion scene.

Style

edit

"I love black, concrete, leather, poetry, and I mainly work through obsessions; obsessions with a material, a detail, or a theme. However, I think one can recognize me by the 'creatures' I create."[5] Raphaël Algieri's style is characterized by a blend of raw textures and an androgynous aesthetic. Using materials like leather and vinyl, his creations are often described as erotic and sometimes provocative.[2] His approach aims to break traditional fashion codes by creating inclusive garments that are designed to fit a wide range of body types and to express the personality and individuality of each wearer.

Raphaël Algieri has always had a taste for paradoxes, seeking to blend "what disturbs and what comforts"[5] in each of his creations. This unique style, both powerful and sensitive, allows ALGIERI PARIS to stand out in the landscape of contemporary fashion with pieces that combine visual provocations and sophistication.

Bunker Couture

edit

Bunker Couture™ is the term used by Raphaël Algieri to describe the unique aesthetic of his creations. This style embodies duality, combining raw and powerful elements with a couture and refined approach. Raphaël defines "Bunker" as a tribute to the "brutal, almost icy" aspect of his pieces, which incorporate materials like leather, vinyl, and denim, evoking an urban, harsh, and almost militaristic look. "Couture," on the other hand, refers to the respect for craftsmanship and the tradition of French haute couture, aiming to infuse a poetic and elegant touch into a style based on paradoxes.

Definition

Bunker Couture™ (Adjective)

  1. Describes a fashion style that blends powerful and aggressive visual codes, inspired by urban and punk culture, with a touch of refined elegance. This style combines raw materials like leather, vinyl, and denim with more subtle elements, creating a contrast between the rawness and a certain discreet luxury. Example: "They always dress in a bunker couture style, mixing punk-inspired pieces with more elegant elements, like metallic details or fine fabrics."
