Ripple Court is a Grade II listed home in the small, coastal town of Deal, Kent. It was built between 1792 and 1802 by John Baker Sladen on the site of an existing 16th century home.[1] There is speculation it was designed by the architect Sir John Soane, a noted Neo-Classical architect in the 18th and 19th centuries, although this has never been verified. There are many noted similarities to Shane's buildings and Ripple Court, particularly in the plan.[2]The house served as the seat of John Baker Sladen, as well as the home of the Sladen family In the late 1800s, it was renovated and expanded by Architect John MacLaren.[3]Sir Charles Sladen, the 6th Premier of Victoria and son of John Baker Sladen, was born at Ripple Court in 1816.[4] It continues to be an important architectural site in Kent, and now functions as a wedding venue.[5]
