Rizwan Sajan (born December 27, 1963),[citation needed] commonly known as Dubai's "Mr. 1% Man,"[1] is an Indian-born Emirati businessman and billionaire. He is the founder, Chairman and managing director of the Danube Group. [2]

Early Life

edit

Sajan was born into a middle-class family in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. He lost his father at the age of 12. As a teenager, he began selling books and fireworks to support his family.[3] At the age of 18, he went to Kuwait for a job, but the Kuwait War changed everything, and he had to return to Mumbai in 1991.

Then he moved to Dubai in 1993 and started working at a hardware store.[4] He started his own business with his wife Sameera Sajan, who became his first employee. He established Danube as a small trading firm in 1993.[5] Now the company's turnover exceeds $2.5 billion[6] and has operations in more than 50 locations globally, with over 3300 employees worldwide.
