Draft:Running for Governor

"Running for Governor" is a satirical short story by the American author Mark Twain published in 1870.

The story was released after the 1870 New York gubernatorial election and initially appeared in the literary magazine "Galaxy." It lampoons the hypocrisy of American elections. In the narrative, Mark Twain envisions himself nominated as an independent candidate for the New York governorship, only to face a series of fabricated personal attacks by anonymous assailants.

In mainland China, this story has been utilized as a critique of liberal democracy and has been a fixture in middle school Chinese language textbooks for an extended period, thus widely known among many Chinese people.[1]
