Société d'Automatisation des Transactions Interbancaires et de Monétique (SATIM) is a key entity in Algeria's financial sector, established in 1995 by a consortium of banks. It is the exclusive operator of interbank electronic payment systems in Algeria, handling both domestic and international card transactions.

editSATIM was created in 1995 at the initiative of the Algerian banking community. It is a subsidiary of seven Algerian banks: Banque de l'Agriculture et du Développement Rural (BADR), Banque de Développement Local (BDL), Banque Extérieure d'Algérie (BEA), Banque Nationale d’Algérie (BNA), Crédit Populaire d'Algérie (CPA), Caisse Nationale d'Épargne et de Prévoyance (CNEP), and Banque Al Baraka d’Algérie, along with the insurance institution Caisse Nationale de Mutualité Agricole (CNMA).[1]
Role and Function
editSATIM operates as the sole interbank electronic payment operator in Algeria. Its main functions include facilitating and managing card transactions within the country and promoting the use of card-based payments. This role is integral to the national agenda of modernizing the banking sector.[2]
Membership
editThe interbank electronic payment network of SATIM includes 19 members: 18 banks (comprising six public banks and twelve private banks) and Algeria Post.[3]
Growth and Development
editSATIM has witnessed substantial growth in recent years. The company currently operates over 1,351 Automated Banking Machines (ATMs) and 36,000 electronic payment terminals. Additionally, it supports more than 108 online merchant sites (Webmarchands) on its platform. This growth underscores the significant impact of the CIB card on Algerian consumer purchasing habits.[4][5]
