Linda Vista Golf Club
editSan Jose Country Club was established in 1899 as Linda Vista Golf Club, making it the fourth-oldest golf club in Northern California. Linda Vista was originally a six-hole golf course with sand greens.
Later, the club expanded to a 2900-yard 9-hole course.
Current Course
editIn 1912, a new, 18-hole course was built on a hillside about half a mile east of the previous site. Tom Nicholl was the original designer of the course, but after the club acquired more of the surrounding land, the holes were expanded and the course was redesigned by A.W. Tillinghast.
After further revisions such as adding cart paths for electric golf carts, and removing trees and bunkers, and one major overhaul by John Harbottle, the course is a par 70 that measures 6,225 yards from the back tees and has a USGA rating of 71.2 and a slope of 132.
Santa Clara County Championship
editFor 98 years, San Jose Country Club has hosted the Ernie Peiper, Jr. Santa Clara County Championship. This tournament attracts top amateurs from around the South Bay. The 2024 Champion is Ryan Firpo.
Besides Golf
editBesides golf, San Jose Country Club has other amenities, including a swimming pool, a resturaunt, a driving range, and bocce courts.
