Sanatorium is a European death metal band that was formed in 1994 in Slovakia. The band is known for its uncompromising approach to brutal death metal and has gained international recognition within the underground metal scene.
History
editSanatorium began its musical career by releasing three demo versions: Subculture (1995), Autumn Shadows (1996), and Necrologue (1998). In 1999, the band released their debut album Arrival of the Forgotten Ones, which was characterized by a more melodic approach to death metal. After this album, significant personnel changes occurred, which greatly influenced the band's musical direction, pushing their production towards more brutal and extreme death metal.
The following studio albums confirmed the new direction of the band:
"Internal Womb Cannibalism" (2001), "Fetus Rape" (EP, 2003), "Goresoaked Reincarnation" (2004), "Celebration of Exhumation" (2004). Despite attempts to record further albums after 2004, new recordings remained unofficial and unreleased.
Concert Activity
editThroughout its career, Sanatorium established itself as a significant live band, playing more than 1,000 concerts across Europe, Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus. They have shared the stage with bands like Lividity, Centinex, Sepsism, Soils of Fate, Disgorge, and Internal Suffering. Notable collaborating bands include Suffocation, Napalm Death, Haemorrhage, and Behemoth.
Current Activity
editIn 2019, the band returned to the scene and played a series of successful concerts. During the COVID-19 pandemic, their activity was temporarily interrupted, but in 2024, Sanatorium fully reactivated. The band released an LP version of their debut album Arrival of the Forgotten Ones and launched a new official website. Sanatorium also continues to perform and is working on new tracks, which remain true to their characteristic death metal style, avoiding political themes and focusing on diverse lyrical concepts.
Even after thirty years since its inception, the band Sanatorium remains an active and respected representative of the death metal scene.
