Scullen Middle School is a public middle school located at 2815 Mistflower Lane in Naperville, Illinois, United States. It serves students in grades 6 through 8 as part of Indian Prairie Community Unit School District 204 (IPSD 204). The school's teams and clubs compete under the name the Scullen Sharks, and the school's colors are columbia blue and navy.

Overview

Scullen Middle School is one of seven middle schools operated by Indian Prairie Community Unit School District 204, alongside Crone, Fischer, Granger, Gregory, Hill, and Still Middle Schools. The school enrolls roughly 950 students across its three grade levels and maintains a student-to-teacher ratio of around 14–15 to 1.

Scullen offers a Gifted & Talented program and participates in the district's Project Lead The Way (PLTW) curriculum, which introduces students to engineering and STEM-focused coursework. The school has consistently ranked among the top-performing middle schools in Illinois on state proficiency assessments.

Students who attend Scullen for middle school, along with students from Crone and Gregory Middle Schools, typically feed into either Neuqua Valley High School or Waubonsie Valley High School for grades 9 through 12, depending on their home subdivision.

History

Scullen Middle School is named in honor of Dr. Thomas G. Scullen, who served as superintendent of Indian Prairie Community Unit School District 204 from 1986 to 1995. During his nine-year tenure, Dr. Scullen was credited with a number of innovations intended to prepare the district for the 21st century, and the district later named the school in his honor.

The school opened as part of a broader wave of construction within Indian Prairie CUSD 204, which built eleven new school buildings during the 1990s to accommodate the district's rapid growth as Naperville and the surrounding area expanded. Indian Prairie itself was formed in 1972 through the merger of three smaller school districts, and grew from a single K-8 district into one of the largest school districts in Illinois.
