History

edit

Sono Group AS was founded in 2003 when Trond Frigaard[2] bought 100% of the shares in Sarpsborg Metall AS. He is the grandson of the founder Georg Jenssen and thus the roots go all the way back to 1946[3]. In Sweden, the oldest company in the group is Tranås Skolmöbler AB, founded in 1896[4].

In 2004, the name Scandinavian Storage Group was adopted and the following year the company was established in Denmark. In 2009, office furniture was included in the range and North Investment Group was adopted as the name. This company bought the majority in the listed Swedish company ACAP Invest in 2014[5], which included a number of furniture companies. In the following years, two companies were sold and one was bought and in 2020 the name Sono Group was adopted.

The Frigaard group passed 2 billion NOK in turnover for the first time in 2020[6]. A lot of the increased turnover was from property development[7]. Frigaard Group was close to 3 billion in turnover in 2023, but took a safe bet and sold a company to get lower debt when inflation and interest rate hike hit.[8]

Business areas
