The Soviet aircraft carrier Izmail project (Russian: Измаил) was the first attempt by the Soviet Union to build an aircraft carrier. The program involved the conversion of the partially completed Imperial Russian battlecruiser Izmail, an Borodino-class battlecruiser, into an early carrier, an interwar carrier, the first Izmail-class aircraft carrier. It was one of many warship conversions into carriers of the era, though typically, cruiser hulls were chosen for the conversions. The program started in 1925 and was cancelled in 1931.
