Gameplay

edit

Splitgate 2 gameplay features 4 versus 4 multiplayer first-person shooter ("FPS") combat[2] with a futuristic "positive, sporty, Formula One" feel. The game implements multiple rotating game modes, three unique player classes, customizable weapons and equipment, "three-lane style" battlefields, and battlefield-generated strategic weapons.[3]

Game Modes

edit

Game modes are made available on a rotating basis, with certain game modes available continuously. Splitgate 2 currently has two game modes—Hot Zone and Team Deathmatch—with additional modes expected for development and addition to the rotation.[3]

Factions

edit

Players may choose from three playable classes called "Factions" that are poised to appeal to differing gameplay styles. All three Factions share common gameplay mechanics such as creating portals and aiming weapons. These shared mechanics are intended to be primary determinants of match success. Faction differences, although secondary to shared mechanics, are nevertheless intended have a tangible role in gameplay.[a] Faction differences include unique special abilities and equipment customizations.[3] Player characters are called "Aces" and possess abilities unique to each faction.[4]

Aeros

edit

The Aeros faction emphasizes movement, granting players a unique speed-boosting ability. This faction is intended to appeal to players with strong mechanical skills, and those who enjoy fast, aggressive combat.[3]

Sabrask

edit

The Sabrask faction emphasizes defense, granting players a unique barrier wall ability. This faction is intended to appeal to players hailing from Call of Duty- or Halo-style games.[3]

Meridian

edit

The Meridian faction emphasizes team support. Meridian abilities include team-accessible wall hacks and healing stations, and Meridians have access to equipment like the "Time Dome" that rushes teammates and slows enemies.[3]

Maps

edit

Splitgate 2 maps feature a "three-lane style" that differs markedly from its predecessor's: they are more symmetrical and far less vertical. The three-lane pattern common to each map strikes a resemblance to Call of Duty.[3]

Notes

edit
  1. ^ Splitgate 2 designers have signaled desire for match success to weighted in favor of common FPS mechanics, and less toward player classes: "We wanted the success of the game to, ballpark, be 80% dictated by your ability to shoot and portal and have good positioning. And 20% is more about abilities on top of that."[3]
