Draft:Steve Medina

Steve Medina was a resident of South Gate, California, living there for over 40 years of his life. He attended Tweedy Elementary, South Gate (Junior High) Middle School, and graduating from South Gate High School in 1993. He was a varsity football player at SGHS, playing Center on the offensive line. He was a 3 year captain on the team, receiving many awards, including being named on the 1992 Los Angeles Times Central All-Star High School Football team. [1] He went on to play on the offensive line at Santa Monica College from 1993-1994, before transferring to the University of La Verne. After many years as an assistant coach on various teams throughout LAUSD, including his alma mater, then Huntington Park High School in the early 2000's, and Linda Esperanza Marquez High School from 2018 - 2021, where he was the offensive coordinator that took the Gladiators to the CIF L.A. City Section Division III championship game vs the Gardena Panthers. Following the suspension of high school athletics during the COVID pandemic, he was offered and accepted the head coach position in 2021 at Legacy High School in his hometown of South Gate, where he became the unofficial face of not only the Tigers football program, but also the athletic department, and entire Legacy school complex. He was awarded Coach of The Year by the Los Angeles Chargers, following his untimely passing in November of 2023. He is laid to rest in Rose Hills in Whittier, CA.
