Steven Ujifusa (b. 1979) is an American historian, author, and public speaker.
Early years and education
He was born in New York City. His father is Grant Ujifusa, a political analyst and author of The Almanac of American Politics. His mother is Amy Ujifusa, a clinical social worker. He was raised on Manhattan's Upper West Side and in Chappaqua, New York. He graduated from Harvard College in 2001 with a B.A., magna cum laude, in history. He received his masters degree in historic preservation and real estate from the University of Pennsylvania in 2005.
Career
He is the author of three books:
A Man and His Ship: America's Greatest Naval Architect and His Quest to Build the SS United States. (Simon & Schuster, 2012).
Barons of the Sea: And Their Race to Build the World's Fastest Clipper Ship (Simon & Schuster, 2018).
The Last Ships from Hamburg: Business, Rivalry, and the Race to Save Russia's Jews on the Eve of World War I (HarperCollins, 2023)
He is the recipient of a MacDowell residency, the Washington Irving Literary Award from the Saint Nicholas Society of the City of New York, and the Literary Prize for Non-Fiction from the Athenaeum of Philadelphia.
Personal life
He lives in the Mount Airy section of Philadelphia with his wife and two sons.
