Tammey for human development is a social project and a house of expertise specialized in youth and community development. It is founded in Jordan, Amman and offers consulting and implementation services in the field of youth and community development around the world, but especially in the Arab world.[1]

Meaning of the name

edit

The name "Tammey" literally means silt, or mud. It is inspired by the Egyptian proverb: Tammey is one, but trees come in different colors. (الطمي واحد والشجر ألوان). Similarly, Tammey sees itself as a fertile soil that helps young generations discover themselves and their innate potential of generating their own alternatives and mastering their paths of life.[2]

Histoy & Achievements

edit

Founding Tammey

edit

Tammey was founded in 2010 with a capital of "1 dinar" by Kamel Nabulsi with a group of professional friends, practitioners, consultants and experts who worked together in the field of youth work and community development. Tammey's vision is "a youth generation that produces its own alternatives", and works to achieve that through 3 strategic pillars:

  1. Create opportunities for young people to reach self-actualization and awareness of their identity.
  2. Develop appreciation, mutual respect and partnerships between youth and society at large.
  3. Professionalize youth work and create a strong community of practice. [1]

Establishing Liwan Youth Space

edit

Tammey collaborated with ActionAid Jordan to establish Liwan Youth Space, a youth hub in Amman, Jordan to provide a physical location inside Amman that offers a safe, convening, inclusive and free space for youth-led innovation, creative activism and new alternative visions.[2] Now Meena is an independent organization, registered in Jordan as an NGO and it achieves its sustainability through providing different services to youth and donor organizations that work with them, in addition to a group of volunteers.[3][4]

Establishing Meena Academy for Youth Work

edit

Meena is registered as an NGO in the Netherlands and an online platform that was developed as an organic evolution of several waves of Tammey developing its own platform to combine online learning & community building among professional youth workers and researchers.[4][5]
