  • Tanishq Abraham was born in Sacramento, California to Taji Bijou Abraham (mother) & Bijou Abraham (father)[3]. Tanishq has a younger sister, Tiara Abraham, who is also a child prodigy. She is a musical prodigy and earned a master of music degree at only 18 years old. When she was just 9 years old, she attended community college.  She is a classical (opera) singer and also enjoys jazz music.[4] According to the family’s facebook page, his mother, Taji Bijou Abraham, left school while working on her PHD to raise Tanishq and his sister. His family has many other accomplished members too. His aunt, Dr. Trini Mathew, is a doctor and his grandmother Dr. Thankam Mathew as well. It was also briefly mentioned that his grandfather too was a doctor.[3]

    • In his professional career, Tanishq is currently the founder and CEO of MedARC[6]. He is also the research director at Stability AI[6]. Abraham has appeared on talk shows, panels, and podcasts. In 2015 Abraham was a guest on Late Night with Conan O'Brien, where he shared science jokes. Abraham gave a Ted Talk, about his experience as a nine-year-old college student proving himself to his professors and classmates. He was also a guest on the Their Life and Work podcast in February 2023 and UC Davis’ Face to Face podcast in August 2022. He also appeared as a panelist at the Stanford AIMI Symposium in June 2023. He also appeared on Abhishek Thakur's Youtube channel in 2020 where he discussed CycleGANs. In 2015 Abraham was on The Queen Latifah Show where he expressed his presidential ambitions and was featured on Lifetime's reality game show "Child Genius." Abraham also has an official Twitter account with over 60,000 followers where he shares various updates and scientific research and is active on Kaggle where he contributes content. In his TEDx Talks, Abraham surprises people with his knowledge at a young age. He inspires young minds, “to follow their passion through TEDx Talks.”[13] With his public speaking and educational outreach, he pushes young students, “encouraging them to overcome academic hurdles and pursue their passions,”[13] by publicly sharing his insights.

Tanishq's discoveries in the biomedical engineering field have been recognized by many peers and mentors. Abraham's Ph.D. advisor at UC Davis, Dr. Richard Levenson[15], has been closely watching Tanishq's progress in the medical Artificial Intelligence (AI) field. He and other researchers believe that AI will significantly improve the speed and accuracy of disease diagnosis[15].One of the most recognized discoveries made by Tanishq is in his thesis on "Virtual Staining of Slide-Free Microscopy Images with Deep Learning." Its primary focus is on creating algorithms with the help of AI to virtually "stain"[16] images from a microscope in a new way that is one step ahead of the old-used methods. Traditional staining is an important step in analyzing tissue structure but is often time and resource-consuming. With the Use of Tanishq's development in AI, this process can be done in a more efficient and time-consuming way, without damaging the tissue sample and allowing re-analysis.[16]

Background on Child Prodigies

One calls them child prodigies when any person is notably skilled or knowledgeable in peculiar areas at a very young age, often achieving more than a grown-up would have by age ten. About 10,000 years ago, when the development of agricultural villages made human culture more complicated, the cerebellum and working memory evolved synchronously.[17]

In young kids, the cerebellum helps organize thoughts and actions more to the level of an adult, which helps them rapidly excel in the topics of their interest. So a child who shows prodigious signs would use their advanced cerebellar processes to connect motor skills above their average age level. [17]

Researcher Larry R. Vandervert suggests that when it comes to mental processes, the cerebellum works similarly as it would with motor skills. Thoughts are being practiced in the working memory while at the same time the cerebellum forms abridged models of them that are returned to the working memory hence speeding up the learning and problem-solving process. This connection between the cerebellum and the working memory in children enhances the orderliness of thoughts, pushing the future child prodigies to faster learning and better focus. [17]

The evidence behind why particular children's cerebellums are more efficient than others lies in the fact that some of them might be genetically predisposed to it. The evolutionary pressure of the brain could have selected certain ones with heightened cognitive skills like it chooses others to be better at sports or other things. An additional factor may be that the expansion of rule-governed knowledge in our history affected the development of the cerebellum and the speed at which it advances. [17]
