Teguh Dartanto, Ph.D. (born Desember 15, 1980) is the current Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Indonesia. He is a prominent Indonesian economist of Javanese descent, both of whose parents are from Pati, Central Java.

He was once the Vice Dean and Head of the Department of Economics, University of Indonesia. Teguh Dartanto was also the Head of the Poverty, Social Protection and Development Economics Research Cluster[1] in the same department. His research has been published in various journals, including The Lancet, Bulletin of Indonesian Economic Studies, Applied Health Economics and Health Policy, Economic Modeling, Tobacco Control, World Development Perspectives, International Journal of Environmental Research & Public Health, Vulnerable Children and Youth Studies, Energy Policy and Singapore Economic Review.

He is actively involved in research collaborations with domestic and international partners such as JPAL Southeast Asia, ANU, ADB, UNDP, JICA, and OECD. He is currently appointed as the Indonesian Representative at the Governing Board of the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA[2])[3] & Vice President of ABEST21[4] (Alliance of Business Education and Scholarship for Tomorrow). Teguh is a member of the Indonesian Young Academy of Sciences and a 2017 Eisenhower Fellow. Previously, he received the Monbukagakusho Scholarship to obtain a Master of Economics degree at Hitotsubashi University and then continued his Ph.D. education in International Development at Nagoya University.

Early Life

Teguh Dartanto is a native of Pati who was born in Pati, Central Java Province, on December 15, 1980. He is the third child of Soeratman (a retired civil servant teacher), and Sunarsih (a retired village employee). Both are from Jati, Central Java.

Teguh Dartanto is an academician who has pursued his educational career diligently. He began his educational journey by earning a Bachelor of Economics degree in Economics with a focus on Development Studies and Regional Economics from the Faculty of Economics, University of Indonesia in 2002. After that, Teguh continued his advanced education in Japan, where he successfully earned a Masters in Economics from the Graduate School of Economics, Hitotsubashi University, in 2009. Not only that, Teguh Dartanto also completed his Phd education in International Development with a specialization in Development Economics from the Graduate School of International Development, Nagoya University, Japan in 2012.

With his educational background, Teguh Dartanto has proven his commitment to the field of economics, especially in the context of international development. His academic achievements and research results have made significant contributions to the understanding and development of economics at the global level.

Teguh Dartanto has had a brilliant career in academics, with various positions that demonstrate his dedication to the development of science and education. Since December 2021 until now, he has served as Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Indonesia, demonstrating his ability to lead and manage an academic institution successfully.[6] Prior to serving as Dean, from May 2021 to December 2021, Teguh was Acting Dean at the same Faculty.

During his time as Dean of FEB UI, Teguh succeeded in bringing FEB UI to obtain a double crown,[7] namely AACSB[8] and AMBA.[9] Currently, Teguh is committed to obtaining EQUIS accreditation.

In the period 2020 to 2022, Teguh served as Vice Dean I for Education, Research, and Student Affairs at the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Indonesia, demonstrating his responsibility for various aspects of education and research at the institution.

(2021) – Head of Research Cluster on Poverty, Social Protection and Development Economics, Department of Economics, Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Indonesia Teguh also chairs the Research Cluster on Poverty, Social Protection, and Development Economics at the Department of Economics, Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Indonesia since 2021.

Research

In addition to his experience at the University of Indonesia, Teguh also has valuable international experience. He was an Associate Researcher at the Institute for Economic and Social Research (LPEM[10]) Faculty of Economics, University of Indonesia, and a Visiting Scholar at the Japan International Cooperation Agency Research Institute (JICA-RI[11]) in Tokyo, Japan, and the Australian National University. In addition, he was also a Visiting Researcher at the Asia Research Center at the London School of Economics, England.

As a dedicated academic, Teguh is also involved in various research projects and has experience as a teaching assistant and researcher at various institutions and universities, both in Indonesia and abroad. His long and diverse career reflects his commitment and great contribution to the development of economic science. Teguh's experience is not only limited to the academic sphere, but also extends to collaborations with international research and development institutions. This demonstrates his extensive network and involvement in cross-border cooperation to enhance global understanding of development issues.

In addition, as Head of the Research Cluster on Poverty, Social Protection, and Development Economics at the University of Indonesia, Teguh has led research efforts aimed at understanding more deeply the social and economic challenges faced by society, and finding innovative solutions to address these problems.

With a career spanning roles as an educator, researcher, and academic leader, Teguh Dartanto has been a role model for many academic and professional communities. His continued contributions and strong dedication to the development of science and community empowerment have made him one of the respected intellectual leaders in the field of economics and development.

In his role as Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Indonesia since December 2021, Teguh Dartanto is responsible for the direction and success of the faculty in achieving its vision and mission. Previously, as Acting Dean and Vice Dean for Education, Research, and Student Affairs, Teguh has proven his ability to lead and manage various aspects of the faculty with brilliant success. As the director of undergraduate programs and head of department at the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Indonesia, Teguh has been involved in developing relevant and innovative curricula and coaching staff and students to achieve high academic standards.

Personal Life

Teguh Dartanto is married to Renny Nurhasanah[12] a Doctor of Public Health, Assistant Professor at the School of Strategic and Global Studies, University of Indonesia, and has three children, namely Hanif Munir Prasetyo (14 years old), Akhtar Zaki Prasetyo (10 years old), and Raffasya Ramadhan Prasetyo (7 years old).
