The Texas Association of Regional Councils (TARC) is a statewide organization representing the 24 regional councils, also known as councils of governments (COGs), in Texas. These councils, composed of city, county, and special district members, collaborate to address local and statewide issues through regional strategies and partnerships. TARC supports these efforts by sharing best practices, educating the public, and advocating for councils at the local, state, and federal levels.[1]
Since its founding in 1973[2], TARC has worked with regional councils on initiatives like emergency preparedness, economic and community development, environmental planning, services for the elderly, and regional 9-1-1 systems. Governed by a board of local elected officials[3], TARC plays a key role in enhancing the quality of life for Texans by promoting regional collaboration and solutions.[4]
