The Blue Tree Foundation(BTF)[1] is South Korean NGO against school violence.[2]
History
editIn 1995, The founder, Kim Jong-ki, established The Blue Tree Foundation after losing his 16-year-old son due to school violence, with the hope that there will no longer be a father like himself.
The foundation organized a campaign collecting 470,000 signature from citizens to create measures to prevent school violence, which later contributed to the enactment of the Act on the Prevention of and Countermeasures Against Violence in Schools[3] in 2004.
The foundation operates National School Violence Helpline (1588–9128)[1] to support victims,[4] conducts National Research on School & Cyberbullying[5] and related research to develop policies necessary to solve school bullying problems, by proposing and disseminating field programs.
The foundation was granted a special consultation position by the UN Economic and Social Council in 2009. In 2023, it attended the plenary session for United Nations Commission for Social Development and hosted a side event at the UN Headquarters about "Achieving Digital Well-being and Addressing Digital Inequality for Sustainable Employment and Decent Work of Youth".[6] In 2024, BTF organized a side event "Partnerships to End Global Poverty in the Era of Digital Intelligence: Social Digital Enterpreneurship" at the UN High Level Political Forum.[7]
