Draft:The Braided Janes

The Braided Janes is a three piece, post punk latin rock band from Chicago, IL.founded by family members Jessica Rodriguez (vocals, keys, guitar), wife Juny Alvarez (drums, percussion), and brother-in-law Andrew Doyle (bass, electric guitar), The Braided Janes have made an undeniable impact in the Latin scene with their statement-making music and shared vision for social change.

Bilingual and multicultural, their powerful debut album addressed important topics such as gun violence, femicide, and the war on immigrants and POC, and the song “Fuego,” featured on the 2019 project, achieved attention from NPR, which included the track as one of their Best Latin Alternative Songs of 2019.

In March 2022 the band traveled to Minca Colombia to record their 2nd studio album, "Renacer" (Reborn) with Grammy award winning producer Christian Castagno of Sonido Selva Studio ( (Iggy Pop, Bomba Estéreo, Arcade Fire, Systema Solar, The Tom Tom Club) “Renacer” a Latin roots album.

The rhythmic and upbeat “Tropi-alt rock” album features seven songs all in Spanish. No Puedo Más was the first single released late 2022 followed by Mi Canto, Paraíso and their latest single Por Una Mujer released June 30th in celebration of the LGBTQ+ community. The full length album Renacer was released September 22nd, 2023 on Bandcamp and all streaming platforms and the official album release show was held September 23rd at the National Museum of Mexican Art, Pilsen, Chicago.

In 2023 The Braided Janes embarked on their first tour "Corazón Migrante U.S Tour 2023" with performances in over a dozen cities throughout the U.S. alongside an incredible visual display of art, featuring 40 paintings of various mediums, two paper mâché sculptures, and a fashion show, all created by the CORAZÓN MIGRANTE collective of multidisciplinary artists with the goal of highlighting the vibrancy found within the Mexican migrant community.

Though the Corazon Migrante tour and collective ended in Los Pinos CDMX in December 2023, The Braided Janes have continued their mission with the Mexican Folk Art Collective NGO which they joined October 2023. Their first performance was held during the MFAC's sold out annual Dia De Muertos events in LaCrosse and Viola WI where they collaborated with artist Jaqui Arte and Fashion Designer Julieta Zavala to bring awareness to the femicides that plague our community, a subject that hit close to home for the Singer.

The Braided Janes are currently working on self-producing their next album. Their first single, "Besame" will be released October 18, 2024.
