The Logans are a Scottish Country music trio consisting of sisters Honor, Tayler and Leona-Blue Logan. Brothers Lloyd (keys, guitar and cello) and Kipp Logan (vocals, guitar) often play as part of the band and provide session work. Born in Glasgow, Scotland, the sisters began performing locally where they soon found themselves securing bigger gigs and their momentum in the Scottish music scene saw them land a pioneering IGTV series with BBC Scotland 'The Logans: Band of Sisters'. Following the success of the online series, The Logans starred in a dedicated documentary special for television ‘Meet the Logans'’. The series and documentary followed the sisters as they made a bid to win the hearts of country music fans across the UK.[1] The success of the documentary led to it being repeated five times.
Early Life and Education
editThe sister’s grew up in a family of 9 siblings, where they explored their creative sides, often singing together in the first iteration of the band and putting on shows for the family.[1] While at school the sisters sang and played in the school choir, orchestra and Jazz band. They also became involved with the Bridgeton Burns Club, where they took part in poetry and music competitions celebrating the works of Scotland’s national poet, Robert Burns. This had a great impact on the sisters, who continued to perform the works of Burns, and state that it has had a profound influence on their own music.
After high school the sisters went on to higher education, Honor studying Law at Strathclyde University, Tayler Music at The Academy of Music and Sound and Leona Dental Therapy at Edinburgh University. While studying, Tayler sang in her own country duo, ‘Bosie’. After the dissolution of Bosie, the sisters began to perform together under the band name ‘The Logans’, before graduating and pursuing music full-time.
Career Beginnings
editThe sisters began supporting local country acts and playing small venues. Their music, sisterly sense of humour and stage presence quickly built a fan base and they began to play larger venues and festivals. The bands momentum and online personality was documented by MLC Productions UK and was then commissioned by BBC Scotland as part of a first of its kind IGTV series, ‘The Logans: band of Sisters’. Following the success of the series, BBC Scotland went to commission MLC Productions to create a documentary special for television, ‘Meet the Logans’. The show proved popular for the channel and was repeated five times. The documentary received the New York Oniros Grand Jury Award award for ‘Best Short Film’ and the award for ‘Best Song’ for the bands single, ‘Caledonia’.[2]
Burn (EP)
editThe Logans launched their debut EP Burn, at Glasgow’s HMV[3] as the first unsigned band given permission to do so. The singles, Caledonia, Castle Crathes, Burn and Meet Me In Mexico were featured in the BBC documentary ‘Meet The Logans’.
Future Releases
editWhile receiving industry interest the Logans have yet to sign a record deal, stating that for the moment they wish to remain independent artists as they enjoy the freedom to explore a “new Scottish country sound” and are not tied down to creating music that doesn’t represent them.
