The Smack is an upcoming neo-noir thriller film from director David M. Rosenthal, based on the Richard Lange novel of the same name (1979). It stars Casey Affleck, Isabel May, Kathy Bates, Marisa Tomei, Teyana Taylor, and Alan Arkin.
Premise
editA conman is aiming for a lucrative pay day in Los Angeles, but it quickly goes wrong.[1]

editThe film is produced by Unified Pictures. Kieth Kjarval co-wrote the screenplay with David M. Rosenthal who directs. Producers are Sam Rockwell, Mark Berger, and Sugar Andrea Bucko of Sugar Rush Pictures.[2] The film has Arnaud Potier as cinematographer.[3]
Casting
editIn September 2022, Casey Affleck was cast in the lead role with Isabel May as his daughter and Marisa Tomei as his ex-wife.[4] That month, Alan Arkin and Kathy Bates, as well as, Teyana Taylor joined the cast.[5] With Arkin's death in July 2023, the film will reportedly be his final role and be released posthumously.[6]
