"The Village" is a song by American singer Wrabel that was released in 2007. It has more then one version, Male to Female (MTF) and Female to Male (FTM) with minimal lyrical changes between them. It is inspirational song to transgender people due to pointing out that someone's identity can't be stopped by Transphobia.[1][notes 1]
Wrabel wrote the song the same day that Donald Trump removed federal protections for transgender people (February 2007).[2][1]
Music videos
editOne of them shows the story of a FTM teenager who is struggling with their identity & his family. At the beginning of the video, there is a quote that resonated with some transgender people. [notes 2] Around the 1:22 mark, the video cuts to a TV screen with the news of Trump banning transgender people from the U.S. Military. [1]
Another one of the music videos is a collaboration with the dancing group Unity. They got Wrabel's attention by getting a golden buzzer for preforming with the FTM version on Britain's Got Talent. In the video, each of the unity members spoke about their experience with how the world treated them. [3]
Notes
edit- ^ The changes in the songs are lyrical ("Cutting your long hair", "Growing out your long hair"), and in the melody (MtF is transposed down)
