The Witness (also known as Shaded) is a 2024 German-Austrian feature film directed by Nader Saeivar, who co-wrote the screenplay with Jafar Panahi. The film is scheduled to premier at the 81st Venice International Film Festival.[citation needed]
Plot
editTarlan witnesses the murder of her friend Rana, who was killed by the husband, a high-ranked government official. After the police refuses to investigate the case, Tarlan decides to inform the public without knowing she has endangered herself and her family.
Production
editThe Witness was filmed for over 39 days from September 25 to November 30, 2023, in Iran. It was produced by the German film production company, Arthood Films and the Austrian Golden Girls Filmproduktion. It gained support by the Austrian Film Institute, Vienna Film Fund, Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, and the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation.[citation needed]
Rozbeh Raeigha handled the cinematography, the music was composed by Karwan Marouf, and the editing by Jafar Panahi.
