Tomiko Itooka (糸岡富子, Itooka Tomiko, born 23 May 1908,[2] in Osaka, Japan)[3] is a Japanese supercentenarian who became the world's oldest living person on 19 August 2024, following the death of Maria Branyas.[4]

Personal life

Itooka was born in Osaka on 23 May 1908 as the second of three siblings. She married her husband in 1928, and they lived together in Nara Prefecture. During World War II, she managed the office of his textile factory. Itooka and her husband had four[1] children. Following his death in 1979, Itooka continued living in Nara until 1989.[5]

Itooka enjoyed hiking, climbing mountains such as Mount Nijō and Mount Ontake.[5]

She lived at home with her two daughters until the age of 110. Since 2019, she has lived in a nursing home in Ashiya, Hyōgo.[1]
