Tyler Heaps (born April 21, 1991) is an American soccer executive who is currently Sporting Director and General Manager at San Diego FC.

Early life and education

Tyler Heaps was born and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota. He attended DeLaSalle High School, where he played football, basketball, and soccer.[1] Heaps played collegiate soccer at Augsburg College, where he graduated in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and a minor in Computer Science.[2]

Career

Early career and U.S. Soccer Federation

After graduating from college, Heaps began his career in the field of analytics while continuing to play and coach soccer at a local level. In 2016, he joined the U.S. Soccer Federation as a data analyst.[3] He quickly rose through the ranks, eventually becoming the Director of Sporting Analytics in 2019. In this role, Heaps was instrumental in building out the analysis and analytics department, supporting all senior and youth national teams. His work contributed to the U.S. Women's National Team's victory in the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup in France, where he was part of the scouting and analytics staff.[4]

AS Monaco

In 2021, Heaps moved to Europe to join AS Monaco Football Club as the Head of Analysis and Insights. Reporting directly to the Sporting Director, he supported all sporting functions, including recruitment, analysis, and performance.[4]

Right to Dream

In 2023, Heaps joined Right to Dream as the Group Head of Recruitment & Insights. In this role, he developed the first-team recruitment strategy for FC Nordsjælland and San Diego FC.[4]

San Diego FC

In 2024, Heaps was appointed Sporting Director and General Manager of San Diego FC. Reporting directly to CEO Tom Penn, Heaps is responsible for overseeing all soccer operations for the club, including player recruitment, roster building, and budget management.[5]

Personal life

Tyler Heaps is engaged to soccer player Lindsey Horan.[1] The couple reportedly met during the 2019 Women's World Cup, where Horan was playing, and Heaps was part of the U.S. Soccer staff.[6]
