"Umówiłem się z nią na dziewiątą" ("I Have a Date With Her at 9 p.m.") is a song composed by Henryk Wars with lyrics by Emanuel Schlechter. It was originally performed by a Polish actor Eugeniusz Bodo in the musical romantic comedy film Neighbors (1937).[1]
Associated with the nostalgic interwar period of rising cinema and music culture in Poland, the song remains one of the most popular Polish pop songs of all time.[2][3]
Composition
edit"I Have a Date With Her at 9 p.m." was written by Polish-Jewish composer Henryk Wars (later known as Henry Vars) and lyricist Emanuel Schlechter for the 1937 film Neighbors (Piętro wyżej).[1]
The song appears in a scene where the main character, being the radio announcer, while relaying information to the audience, starts singing the song. Its lyrics tell the story of a man who can't wait to meet with a woman, with whom he made an appointment for 9 pm. According to its composer Henryk Wars, he came up with the idea of the song while reading the movie's screenplay.[4]
