The Unfading Flower Icon is a Marian apparition. It is an important icon in Eastern Orthodox Christianity. It shows the Virgin Mary holding Baby Jesus. She is holding white lilies in her left hand. These lilies represent her virginity and purity.[1]

Locations and Veneration

This icon is in several churches in Russia. In Moscow, it is in two churches. One is the Church of the Dormition at Mogil'tsy. This church celebrates it on December 31. The other is the Alexeyev Monastery. There are more icons like this in other places:[1]

  • In Kungur, in the Perm Gubernia.[1]
  • In the old town of Kadome in the Tambov Province. It is in the Merciful Theotokos women's monastery.[1]
  • In the Nativity of the Theotokos church in Voronezh.[1]

Similar Icon in Budishch

A similar icon is in the village of Budishch. It is in the Church of Saint Nicholas. This icon looks like other old icons in the area. Every year on April 3, people go to Budishch. They go to see this icon and a copy of the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God. Many believe this icon in Budishch has healing powers. There are stories of sick people getting better after praying in front of it.[1]
