Tips

  1. Understand Wikipedia's Guidelines: Wikipedia has specific guidelines and policies for user pages. Make sure your design adheres to these rules to avoid disqualification.
  2. Keep it Clean and Simple: A clean and simple design often looks more professional and is easier to navigate. Avoid cluttering your page with too many elements or overly complex layouts.
  3. Use Responsive Design: Sometimes what looks nice on a desktop computer doesn’t look so great on a mobile device, and vice versa! Be sure to test out your design on multiple devices & browsers to ensure that all voters get to see your work in a light that best represents the hard work you put in.
  4. Optimize Loading Times: Ensure that your page loads quickly. Compress images and limit the use of animated GIFs.
  5. Consistent Styling: Use a consistent color scheme, font choices, and layout throughout your user page. This creates a cohesive look and feel, making your page more visually appealing.
  6. Highlight Key Information: Make sure important information about yourself or your contributions to Wikipedia is easy to find. Use headings, subheadings, and bullet points to organize content effectively.
  7. Use Quality Graphics: High-quality images and graphics can make your user page stand out. Ensure that all images are relevant, properly attributed, and meet Wikipedia's licensing requirements.
  8. Accessibility Matters: Design your page with accessibility in mind. Use alt text for images, ensure sufficient contrast between text and background colors, and avoid using flashing or rapidly changing elements.
  9. Interactive Elements: Consider adding interactive elements like collapsible sections or tabs to make your page more engaging. Just be sure these elements work smoothly across different devices.
  10. Seek Feedback: Before submitting your design, ask for feedback from friends, fellow Wikipedians, or online design communities. Constructive criticism can help you refine your page and catch any issues you might have missed.
  11. Personal Touch: Add a personal touch to your page to reflect your personality and interests. This can make your page unique and memorable for voters.
