Vitaliy Anatoliyovych Kosykh (Ukrainian: Віталій Анатолійович Косих; 23 March 1949 - 26 September 2014), was a Ukrainian statesman and politician who served as the second mayor of Chernihiv from 1992 to 2001.
Early life and education
editKosykh was born in Chernihiv was born on 23 March 1949 to the family of a workers.[1][1][2] He received his higher education (mechanical engineer)[3] at the Chernihiv branch of the KPI[1] in 1974.[4] He then entered the Chernihiv Higher Military Aviation School of Pilots, but after the 2nd year left his studies due to his health.[4]
Early career
editHe started his career in 1968 as a turner's apprentice at the Chernihiv Chemical Fiber Plant.[5] Then he worked as a turner at "Khimvolokno" Vocational Training Institute, foreman, engineer at "Chernihivgaz" Vocational Training Institute.[4]
From 1974 to 1975, he was the 2nd secretary of the Desnyan District Committee of the Komsomol of Chernihiv, secretary of the Desnyan District Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine, instructor of the regional committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine, instructor of the Novozavodsk District Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine, head of the organizational department of the Desnyan District Committee and the Chernihiv City Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine.[4]
Politics
editFrom December 1988 to April 1990, he was the Chairman of the City People's Control Committee.[4][6]
From April 1990 to May 1992, he was the deputy chairman of Chernihiv.[7][8] On 20 May 1992, Kosykh became the 2nd Mayor of Chernihiv.[7][8]
In May 1998, he was part of the delegation of congress of local and regional authorities of Europe.[9]
In 1999, he was a corresponding member of the Ukrainian Municipal Academy.[1]
He left office on 15 November 2001 with consent.[10]
Between April 2001 to April 2006, he had been the Deputy Chairman of the Chernihiv Oblast Council.[11]
Since November 2001, he has been the director of the Chernihiv Regional Employment Center.[8]
In 2010, he has been an adviser to the Mayor of Chernihiv.[12]
Death and Honors
editVitaliy Anatoliyovych Kosykh died on 26 September 2014 in Chernihiv.[4][13] On 28 August 2015, he is awarded the honorary citizen of Chernihiv.[14]
