Washington Academic Middle School (WAMS) is a public secondary school in Sanger, California. It is a part of the Sanger Unified School District. Located at 1705 Tenth St. Sanger, CA 93657. The school is attended by 1500 students.[1][2][3]

The location was previously owned by Sanger Union High School.[4]

Controversy

In January 2014, 12-year-old Pedro Ivan Espinoza a 7th grade student in the school and a member of the WAMS Junior Varsity soccer team collapse in the soccer field. And died at 2:30 pm (PDT).[5][6]

In March 2017, 12-year-old Mina Vang, was hit by a pickup truck as she was trying to crossed a half-mile to the bus stop. The driver was not on drugs or drinking alcohol. Vang was a 7th grade student in the school.[7][8][9]

In May 2017, 4 Washington Academic Middle School students were disease with Chickenpox.[10][11]

In November 2018, a 12-year-old Sanger girl was arrested for making threats to the school in social media, The Sanger Police Department questioned the girl and searched her home for weapons. But later didn't find any weapons. The girl has been booked into the Fresno County Juvenile Justice Facility on criminal charges related to the threats.[12][13][14]

In December 2022, a student bring a "unloaded pellet gun" to the school. Sanger Police officers confiscated the item and later turned over to law enforcement.[15]
