Waymon Boone is an American filmmaker and musician based in Los Angeles. He was the former lead singer of the alternative rock band Splender. Boone founded the production company Genetic Code Pictures and has directed several feature films and television series.
Biography
[edit]Born in New York City, Boone is the son of a professional R&B and disco singer who toured extensively throughout North America. After his grandparents passed away when he was seven, he joined his mother on the road, spending much of his youth in recording studios and tour buses. He later moved to Montreal, Canada, for a more stable environment and to pursue his education. He studied film and theater at John Abbott Academy in Montreal before moving to Hollywood.
In 1997, Boone co-founded the band Splender in New York City. The band went through various incarnations, eventually choosing drummer Marc Slutsky after he responded to an advertisement in the Village Voice and lead guitarist Jonathan Svec. The band was signed to Columbia Records. They achieved significant success with their 1999 debut album, Halfway Down the Sky and their hit singles like "I Think God Can Explain" and "Yeah, Whatever", performing on The Tonight Show and The Late Show. Splender toured the world alongside major acts such as Third Eye Blind, Everclear and Korn. He was featuring as guest singer in the Vitamin C's "Money" (1999)
Seeking new creative outlets, Boone moved to Los Angeles and founded Genetic Code Pictures, a full-service film studio and production house. His first feature film, The Devil's in the Details (2013), starred Ray Liotta and was sold at the Cannes Film Festival. He has become a prominent voice in LGBTQ+ media, writing and directing series like Falling for Angels and Turning Teddy for Here TV and Amazon Prime.[1]
