World Mobile uses hybrid technologies in the air and on the ground to deliver network coverage in rural areas where there is no electricity then solar power is used. With tethered balloons connectivity can be delivered upto a range of 70 kilometers (44 miles).[7] AirNode ground towers deliver the last mile to the end-users in populated areas. The nodes can get connectivity through a mix of technologies like balloons, fiber-optic cables and free-space optical communications. In contrast to traditional centralized mobile operators, local businesses and entrepreneurs can own and operate a node.[8]
