Draft:YÖS Yabancı Uyruklu Öğrenci Sınavı

YÖS is a form of foreign students exam, designed for those who are applying to Turkish universities. International students can apply to almost any university in Turkey through the completion of this exam.

YÖS background

edit

Since 1981, the YÖS exam was a gateway method for international students to apply to study in Turkey. Up until 2010 the exam was centrally administered by ÖSYM, however the system has undergone a change in 2010. Universities were allowed to develop their own YÖS exams, meaning foreign students applying to specific universities had to take the YÖS exam specific to the university they chose.

Some universities decided to accept exam results from other universities. Results from Istanbul University, Marmara University, Ankara University, and Ege University were among those that were recognized during that period.

In 2023, the Turkish higher education system returned back to a central system. ÖSYM brought a single entrance exam for all international students - TR-YÖS. This change aimed to establish a more uniform and standardized admission process across all universities.
