Yang Jung-won (Korean: 양정원; born February 9, 2004), known mononymously as Jungwon, is a South Korean singer, dancer, and the leader of the K-pop boy band Enhypen. Appointed to the leadership role at age 16, he drew media attention for being one of the youngest group leaders in the music industry.[1]
Early life and education
[edit]Jungwon practiced Taekwondo for seven years prior to his training in the entertainment industry.[2] He attended Namgang High School before transferring to Hanlim Multi Art School, where he graduated from the Department of Practical Dance in February 2023. He trained under SM Entertainment and Big Hit Music before joining Belift Lab.
Career
[edit]2020–present: Debut with Enhypen
[edit]In June 2020, Jungwon was introduced as a contestant on the reality survival competition show I-Land, created by CJ ENM and Big Hit Entertainment.[3] During the live finale on September 18, 2020, he placed first in the global viewer voting with 1,417,620 votes, securing his spot in the final lineup of the boy band Enhypen.[4]
Following a comprehensive 40-day selection process that included interviews with staff and members, Jungwon was officially announced as the leader of the group on November 13, 2020.[5] Appointed to the position at 16 years old, his selection drew significant media attention as it made him one of the youngest group leaders in modern K-pop history, leading a team where the majority of the members were older than him.[6]

[edit]Beyond his group activities, Jungwon has taken on solo hosting responsibilities. He served as a regular radio host (MC) for the Educational Broadcasting System (EBS) program Listen, co-hosting the weekly broadcast alongside fellow group member Sunoo.[7]
Ambassadorships
[edit]On April 17, 2026, the Seoul Metropolitan Government officially appointed Yang Jungwon as an honorary ambassador for the 2026 Seoul International Garden Show held at Seoul Forest.[8][9] His appointment was heavily publicized due to his name being a homonym for the Korean word for "garden" (jeongwon). In this civic role, he was tasked with promoting urban sustainability and green initiatives through promotional videos and public audio guides for visitors.
As a member of Enhypen, Jungwon has also participated in several major global group brand ambassadorships, including Italian luxury fashion house Prada, Dunkin' Philippines, and Samyang Foods' MEP ramyeon campaign.
Recording Academy membership
[edit]In July 2025, Jungwon was invited to join The Recording Academy as a voting member for its 2025 class, granting voting rights for the 68th Annual Grammy Awards.[10][11][12] The Academy highlighted his artistic contributions as a singer, dancer, and leader of Enhypen, alongside his budding songwriting work on tracks such as "Highway 1009" and "Hundred Broken Hearts."
