Yelena Olshansky, an American inventor and Holocaust survivorwas born 4/12/1928 in Leningrad(Soviet Union). In early 20th her parents, Ephim Kogan and Tatiana Bulgakov, moved from the White Russia (Belarus) to the Leningrad.They had established themselves in Vasilyevsky Island, and later in Griboyedov Canal in the house which belonged to the Russian Museum , where her father began his carrier as one of the Curators. There she passed her childhood and attend the school. Her family lost many of their relatives during the World War II. Yelena is a survivor of the siege of Leningrad by German army. In 1979, Yelena immigrated to the United States where in 2019 she was awarded US patent for the invention of the half-corset. She is presently resides in Jersey City, New Jersey

Biography

Early years

Family life and education

In 1945, after the end of WWII, Yelena had married Moisei Olshansky, a young officer, of the Air force. At the time his regiment was stationed in Poland for two years. in 1947, was born her first child actor-clown and author Vladimir Olshansky was born. In 1952 after the birth of her second son Yury Olshansky, award winning actor and author. By this time her husband, already a Colonel, was transferred to Baku, (Azerbaijan) where he became an inspector of the antimissile defence system of the region of Caucasus. In Baku Yelena finished the Musical College, graduated as the Choir conductor and the teacher of a music history. In 1963 she divorced and returned to Leningrad. She started to work as the music and musical theory teacher at the Pushkin's musical school.

Participation in Leningrad’s non-conformist artist movement

Later on she begun to actively participate in the non-conformist artists movement and organised one of the Leningrad’s non-conformist exhibition in her apartment on the Halturina street 19. Yelena befriended many artists, like Anatoly Maslov, Viktor Volodin, Nikolaj Lyubushkin who had participated in the exhibition, poet and critic Konstantin Kuzminsky, Valerij Valran, etc). Among the invited visitors, there are have been foreign diplomats who served in Leningrad. Particularly, Yelena befriended the General US Consul Mr.Thompson R. Buchanan and his wife Nancy, French Cultural Attaché Mr. Mark Finaud. During the exhibition Yelena’s apartment have been under the constant surveillance of the KGB Eventually Yelena became a prominent supporter of the non-conformist movement, which opposed official Soviet art.

Immigration to the US

In 1979, she immigrated to the United States and had to abundant her musical profession. She entered New York Financial Institute, and after the graduation become a book-keeper, at Lord and Taylor Department Store at the department of bill’s processing. She worked there for fifteen years, before to go on pension.

US patent

In 2019 Yelena was awarded a US patent for the invention of the Half Corset (shape-ware). Presently Yelena lives in Jersey City, NJ. US.
