Yohane Amarh Ashitey born on July 25, 1978, is a Ghanaian politician who currently serves as the Metropolitan Chief Executive [2] for Tema Metropolitan District. He is also the aspiring Member of Parliament for Tema East Constituency, who run unopposed[3].

Early life and education

Yohane Amarh Ashitey was born in Tema Manhean, a vibrant fishing community in the coastal town of Tema, Ghana. He commenced his educational journey at Naval Base Basic School, Tema and later attended Benkum Senior High School, Larteh-Akwapim, for his O-Level examinations. His pursuit of knowledge led him to Presbyterian Boys Secondary, Legon, Ghana, where he completed his GCE A-level examinations in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. In 1997, he furthered his education at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana, earning a BSc. (Hons) in Electrical/Electronics Engineering. Yohane's academic curiosity took him to the University of East London, where he obtained an MSc. in Mobile Communications from 2009 to 2010.

Professional Journey

Yohane Amarh Ashitey's professional journey is marked by dedication and diverse experiences. Notably, he served as the Regional Manager for Huawei Tech S.A (Gh) Ltd (Vodafone & MTN MS) in the Eastern and Volta Region from November 1, 2010, until his recent appointment. Here, he managed the performance of Operations and Maintenance units, ensuring the high-quality performance of various network elements.

Prior to his managerial role, Yohane contributed to the academic community as a Part-time Lecturer at All Nations University College, Koforidua, from September 2011 to July 2013. His teaching portfolio included courses such as Transmission Lines and Waveguides, Antenna and Wave Propagation, and Microwave and Optical Communications.

Telecom Leadership

During the 2020 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections, he held key roles such as Youth Wing Chairman and Sealight Electoral Area Coordinator in the Tema East Constituency. His commitment extended to serving as the Technical Advisor to the Campaign Team in the same constituency.

Metropolitan Chief Executive

On October 23, 2021, Yohane Amarh Ashitey was appointed Metropolitan Chief Executive for Tema by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. In this role, he oversees the day-to-day performance of the executive and administrative functions of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly. His responsibilities include acting as the Chief Representative of the Central Government.

Desire for Member of Parliament

Mr. Yohane Amarh Ashitey filed a nomination as the sole contender for the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) Tema East Constituency parliamentary candidate position[4] He announce his intention to lead the people of Tema East into the 2024 elections and said his going unopposed was an indication that the party was united in the constituency, something that was very important to spearhead a win come 2024. In his political assertions, Yohane Armah Ashitey said he is better option than the current MP of Tema East Constituency and that the constituency deserve better.[5]

Community Involvement and Ventures

Beyond his political and professional engagements, Yohane has actively participated in community development[6]. Notable roles include Board Chairman for Tema Industrial Mission Vocation and Technical Centre, Project Committee Chairman for Tema Manhean Technical Secondary High School, and Board Member of the Tema Technical Institute.

In September 2018, he organized a football competition for Under-20 boys, showcasing his commitment to youth development. Additionally, Yohane served as the President of Tema Manhean University Students Association (TEMUSA) during the 2000-2001 academic year.
