Yoni Assia (born 1981) is an Israeli entrepreneur, co-founder and CEO of eToro.

Early Life and Education

edit

Yoni Assia, born in 1981 in Savyon, Israel, is an entrepreneur recognized for co-founding and leading eToro,[1][2][3] a social trading and investment platform. Assia developed an interest in technology and finance at an early age and began learning to code when he was ten years old.[4][5]

He pursued higher education in Israel, earning a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Management, followed by a Master’s degree in Computer Sciences.[6]

Career Beginnings

edit

Assia’s professional career began in 2000 during his military service in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), where he worked as a programmer in the Military Intelligence Directorate. During his studies in 2003, he co-founded WiTech Communications[7] and CDRide, a company focused on developing on-ride video technology, where he served as Development Manager.

Founding of eToro

edit

In 2007, Yoni Assia co-founded eToro (initially named RetailFX) alongside his brother Ronen Assia and David Ring. The company was designed as a social trading network that allowed users to observe and replicate the trades of others, aiming to make trading more accessible to a broader audience. By 2010, the platform had attracted over a million users.

eToro has since evolved into a comprehensive trading platform offering access to various asset classes, such as stocks, commodities, indices, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), and cryptocurrencies. The platform's growth is attributed to its emphasis on simplifying investing for both novice and experienced traders.

Expansion into Cryptocurrencies Assia has been an advocate of blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies. In 2013, eToro became one of the first regulated platforms to introduce Bitcoin trading, at a time when cryptocurrencies were still largely unknown. This initiative helped to make digital assets more accessible to mainstream investors.

Today, eToro has a global user base of over 20 million registered users. The company continues to offer trading in various digital assets, solidifying its presence in the cryptocurrency market.

Personal Life

Assia is married to Mor Assia, who is the co-founder and managing partner of iAngels, a venture capital firm in Israel. The couple has five children.
