Ben Chimberoff
editI know this is original research by Wikipedia standards. But Ben Chimberoff was my cousin, and I'd be remiss if I didn't add this information, at the very least here on the talk page.
Ben Chimberoff was born on July 15, 1874, in Russia, as Binyamin Tsimberov, and settled in Chicago. His mother Anna raised him as Ben Chimberoff, according to family tradition, because that was her favorite husband's last name. Ben's father was actually named Avraham Baruch Block. Ben had two full siblings, Sara Roda and Morris, and three half siblings, Abraham, Michael, and Levi.
Ben married Bessie Herzog on July 8, 1902, two years before he participated in the Olympics. He was a ladies' tailor by trade.
At some point in the 1920s, Ben and Bessie moved to Los Angeles and changed their last name to Bernard. Ben started going by Charles Bernard, and worked as a buyer in the clothing industry. At some point before his death on January 2, 1940, he went back to using Benjamin, and both his death certificate and gravestone have him as Benjamin Bernard. The gravestone, in Mount Zion Cemetery in Los Angeles, gives his Hebrew name as Binyamin son of Avraham Baruch.
Ben and Bessie had no children, and Bessie lived another 24 years before dying in Los Angeles as well. - Lisa (talk - contribs) 10:43, 15 September 2022 (UTC)
