Response to Reviewer Feedback
[edit]Copy of AfC comment: Just as a pointer, there are four criteria that a source needs to meet to show notability: it must be a secondary source (so things like registers of companies won't count), reliable, independent (not connected to Hibret Insurance), and it must have significant coverage, which is to say that it actually talks about Hibret Insurance as more than just a passing mention.
There's no exact number, but as a rule of thumb, it's good to aim to have at least three sources that meet all four of these criteria MangoMan11 (talk) 09:39, 20 August 2026 (UTC)}}
- Thank you @MangoMan11:. I have updated the draft to rely on three main secondary sources with significant coverage: an academic study dedicated to the firm (Assefa, 2022), an analytical feature from Ethiopian Business Review (2017), and contemporary news coverage of its 2000 corporate merger (Addis Tribune). Government registry links have been kept strictly for factual verification rather than notability. HiddenWalia (talk) 10:06, 20 August 2026 (UTC)
- @HiddenWalia: I have copied the advice from @MangoMan11: here. In my opinion the sources do not contribute to notability for WP:NORG:
- academic study dedicated to the firm (Assefa, 2022): the Wikipedia guideline on reliable sources at WP:THESIS says that doctoral theses can be used with care, but you say this is a masters thesis, so it would not be reliable enough to contribute to notability. Also you should be able to use a reliable source to support the content of the article, rather than a sentence saying that the source exists.
- analytical feature from Ethiopian Business Review (2017): this does not appear to be independent: information about the United Insurance Company is mostly attributed to Meseret Bezabih, its CEO.
- news coverage of its 2000 corporate merger (Addis Tribune): this is too short to be significant coverage. TSventon (talk) 14:43, 26 August 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you @TSventon: for the detailed breakdown and clear explanation regarding WP:THESIS, WP:INDEPENDENT, and WP:SIGCOV. I understand why these specific sources fall short of Wikipedia's notability criteria. I will pause resubmission until I can locate fully independent, in-depth secondary literature (such as peer-reviewed journal articles or published books) that meets these standards. Disclosure: I am a paid editor editing on behalf of Hibret Insurance Share Company. HiddenWalia (talk) 15:14, 26 August 2026 (UTC)
