St Johns College, Cambridge vs. St. Johns University
editThe article gives the college in the text but gives the university in the infobox. The university is linked to a disambiguation page. They would be different institutions; is there a citation to a verified source that could clear up the confusion? Thanks-- FeanorStar7 (talk) 19:13, 5 May 2024 (UTC)
Issues
editDenninithan. I'm not entirely sure that [1] is a reliable source. It is the only one citing the personal life section but it does not verify the information in that section. First, it does not actually say that Alexander moved to South Africa in 1904. It says he founded the JBD then, but he could have settled in Cape Town much earlier. You then say he and Ruth had two sons and one daughter; the source says one son and two daughters.
Moving on to Gandhi, you say that Alexander and Gandhi were "united over their support for Yiddish speakers". The source, [2], explicitly states: "Gandhi was not happy about the campaign to declare Yiddish European". Earlier, the source says that Alexander, "as a white European, could support Gandhi in advocating for the rights of Indians but resist any law that classified Jews with Indians and Chinese". I would hardly call that a united front.
Another point I would make is that both of the above sources describe Alexander as a lawyer and as an attorney, but the article makes no mention of his legal qualifications or his legal career.
I recommend that this article is demoted to draft status until it has been rewritten to comply with site standards and especially with the conditions of WP:V. PearlyGigs (talk) 16:50, 21 July 2024 (UTC)
- As the article was created less than 90 days ago and there are issues with verification, I believe I am entitled to move it into draftspace per WP:ATD-I. If anyone disagrees, I will not object to the article being restored to mainspace. But, the verification issues must be resolved and we must be sure that the article fully complies with WP:V, WP:NOR, and WP:NPOV. Thanks. PearlyGigs (talk) 10:59, 22 July 2024 (UTC)
- Do whatever you want to the article. I can’t edit well right now as I don’t have a computer and won’t until the 6th. Also in my opinion it is always faster to make a new article than correct and argue over an old one. Denninithan (talk) 07:51, 23 July 2024 (UTC)
