Templates for biographies

edit

This is my first newly created article and I am sure it could be a lot better. It's been rejected and then I tried to address that by adding lots of independent, secondary and reliable sources. They have nearly all been removed by another editor and it seems to be back to the article that was rejected.

I was not sure where to put book reviews - it seemed natural to use as a reference for the book, where should they go?

It would be great if someone could point to biographies that more experienced Wikipedians think are best practice - or where to look / ask. I've looked at a lot, long and short and they all seem to have different styles. I have seen some discussion and general rules, but are there any articles that are considered models by most? Asked this on the Wikipedia Tea Room and had some really helpful advice (pasted below). So, makes me think I should have chosen a different / better new article (but everything else on my list already had a page). Also, that I should have asked more questions. But better late than never?
@ITellComputerYes Welcome to the Teahouse. We have a manual of style with general guidance for biographies: see MOS:BLP. If your subject is alive, then it is important to also read the policy at WP:BLP, in particular the bit about inline citations. In general, you should use articles rated good or featured as models but these are unlikely to be short ones. Note that your main task is to show how the person is wikinotable. And with regards to reliable sources and notability, I suppose I was mistaking book reviews for notability and citing them, when references needs to independent discussion of the person's life and work to pass the notability test. ITellComputerYes (talk) 15:41, 4 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
ITellComputerYes, you weren't quite mistaken about the book reviews! Wikipedia has a lot of different "ways" somebody can be identified as wiki-notable for an article. For the most common criteria, WP:NBIO, the sources do need to be about Shortt. But for WP:NAUTHOR, it's OK if the sources are about his books instead, as long as he has 2-3 books that are wiki-notable. And a book can be wiki-notable per WP:NBOOK with two independent book reviews. So, I accepted this draft because the book reviews convinced me that he had enough NBOOK-notable books for this to be an NAUTHOR-notable biography. Does that make sense? ~ L 🌸 (talk) 22:24, 4 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
