Education

edit

Akere studied law at Ambrose Alli University, and was called to the Nigerian Bar Association in 2003. He also studied Luxury brand management and product design at the London College of Fashion. He recently completed a program at UAL: University of the Arts London.[12][13]

Career

edit

During his time as a law student, he found it difficult to fit in due to his elaborate style of dress. After being walked out of court due to his inability to conform to the dress code,[12] he decided to pursue fashion after his call to the Bar.[14][15]

Akere's first client was his brother, who he lived with at Yaba, Lagos. He started by sketching designs and eventually began making clothes for his brother. His brother's friends became his clients through referrals. Over time, Akere discovered that he was getting more patronage for traditional wears than English wear, leading him to focus on traditional wears.[16][17][18]

Evans Akere has styled several dignitaries, celebrities and influencers such as Mike Adenuga, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, Donald Duke, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu,[19] Richard Mofe-DamijoBoviJoseph BenjaminJulius Agwu and others.[7][20][21][22]

Personal life

edit

Akere was born in Benin City, Edo State. He is married to Abiemwense Evans-Akere and they have three children. He lives in Lagos with his family.
