History

edit

After five years with Spud Cannon,[1][2] Jackson Walker Lewis and Ben Scharf decided to leave the band, seeking to move beyond what Scharf described as "some nimby kimby indie rock bullshit."[2] By October 2022,[3] the duo began experimenting with house music and invited vocalist Shannon Wise, former frontwoman of The Shacks, whom Lewis had met through a mutual friend. Wise accepted, feeling she was "over indie shit" and wanting to explore "beats or dubstep."[2] In an interview with NME, the band claimed to have toured with Snail Mail and Speedy Ortiz,[4] though this was called out as inaccurate by Sadie Dupuis from Speedy Ortiz.[5]

In March 2023, Fcukers played their debut show in New York City and released their first single, "Mothers".[3][6] Later that year, they collaborated with James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem on a remix of "Los Angeles" by Lol Tolhurst, Budgie, and Jacknife Lee. By May 2024, the group signed with Ninja Tune's Technicolour Records imprint, which released their single "Bon Bon" that same month.[7] In July, they announced their debut EP entitled Baggy$$ and released a new single, "Homie Don't Shake".[8] The track samples Beck's 1996 song "Devils Haircut", which they had previously covered as "Devils Cut",[9] and it was featured on Pitchfork's "11 Songs You Should Listen to Now".[10] In August, they followed up with another single, "Tommy".[11] Baggy$$ was officially released in September through Technicolour.[12]
